Goa, India is the smallest state of India and is popular for its sun and sands. Goa, India is also famous around the world as a vacation destination with beautiful beaches. The state is situated on the west coast of India. This coast is often called as the Konkan Coast. The state of Goa, India is surrounded by the state of Maharastra from most of the sides as well as by Karnataka and the Arabian Sea. The capital of Goa, India is Panaji or Panjim while the largest city of Goa is Vasco Da Gama. In terms of population Goa is the fourth smallest state of India.

As the saying goes “small is beautiful” Goa offers some of the most exotic beaches and scenic beuty. To enjoy their holidays at the beaches of Goa every year people from across the world come to Goa. The tourist inflow include domestic as well as international tourists. Apart from the beautiful beaches Goa, India is also known for its temples and world heritage architectures. Goa also has a wide variety of flora and fauna on the Western Ghats range. This area is considered a biodiversity hotspot.

Goa, India has a rich history that dates back to the time of Mahabharata. At the time of the Mahabharata the area which is now known as Goa was known as Goparashtra or Govarashtra which means the nation of cowherds. In ancient Sanskrit text the reference of the place can also be found. However, the knownhistory of Goa can be found from the 3rd Century BC. The state from time to time became the part of several empires like, the ,Mauryan empire, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Silharas and Kadambas. After that in the year 1312 Goa, India became the part of the Delhi Sultanate and later it became a part of the Vijayanagara empire and Bijapur empire.



The Colonial history of Goa, India began in the year 1498 when Vasco da Gama as the first european came to India via the water routes. He first landed in the Calicut in Keralla and then went to the area which is commonly known as Old Goa. At that time Goa, India was the largest trading center in the western coast of India. In the year 1510 after a battle defeating the Bijapur Kings the Portuguese took over Velha Goa and set their colony there. After the independence of India from the British rule too Goa, India was under the Portuguese control. But in the year 1961 Operation Vijay was executed to take the control of Goa. Goa, India gained the recognition as a state in the year 1987.

Goa, India is also famous for its Goa Trance music. The traditional dance form of Goa are dekhnni, fugdi and corridinho. The Goan food is also very popular among the people around the world.
